Commissioner John Daley Joins Dems Supporting Speaker Welch for 7th District State Central Committeeman

House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch has gained another big 7th District endorsement from Cook County Commissioner and 11th Ward Committeeperson John Daley. Daley also serves as Chair of the Cook County Board Finance Committee

“House Speaker Chris Welch is a proven and compassionate leader who has consistently fought to improve the lives of Illinois residents,” said Daley.  “I’m proud to support his candidacy for the 7th District State Central Committee person.”

Welch has consistently demonstrated his vision for collaborative leadership in the Democratic Party since becoming the first African-American Speaker of the House in 2021, changing the way the House operates and leading one of the most successful Democratic Caucuses in the country. Welch fields hundreds of requests for speaking and party building across the state–serving as an anchor to the Illinois’ Democratic Party up and down the ballot. Welch has played significant roles in not only supporting Democratic members of the House, but also Democratic mayors, the Supreme Court, the Board of Review, and Cook County Dems.  As party leaders work to gain ground, it is more important than ever for this seat to be filled by someone with a track record of building the big tent and folding in diverse groups that represent the makeup of the 7th District.

“The incredible coalition coming together in support of my State Central Committeeman run reflects my belief that our party is strongest when we stand together, when we work together, and when we lead together,” Speaker Welch said. “That commitment to uniting people around our shared values has driven everything I’ve done as a community leader, a legislator, and as Speaker. Unity and building the big tent is my priority every day. I look forward to continuing to move our party forward.”

Daley’s endorsement continues the groundswell of support for Welch to have a seat at the table representing these diverse and growing communities on the Democratic Party of Illinois’ governing committee. Welch’s full endorsement list includes:
